Two weeks ago Tom and I took a spring drive up around Pine Flat Reservoir and then had a picnic at a stream flowing through what he thought was Sycamore Canyon. It was a beautiful day in early April and shows what the Central Valley of California looks like during the wildflower display that begins in early spring and lasts upward in the hills and mountains until the end of summer. As the spring progresses, the flowers dry up lower in the valleys and the hills become yellow. However in the high country flowers can be found even in August. This was a good year for spring rain and has led to an exceptional bloom in the lower foothills. I anticipate that we will have a lorious spring in the high Sierra when the snow finally melts.

These are some of my favorites. I especially like the one of the stream and the one with poppies and the reservoir in the background.
