Feast of All Saints

(Written during Religion lesson with Mrs. Emilija Dodig, Religion teacher)

Feast of All Saints is very often associated with the Day of the dead. However, these are two different holidays. On the feast of All Saints we celebrate all the deceased who have "received the award, which the Father has prepared for them." Not all of them to boot in honor of the altar, but their quiet and modest life deserves to enter the glory of God. They are similar to that widow who gave all of her belongings. They dedicated their whole life to God by serving others with love, working odd jobs that we often did not notice, as well as the importance attached to them. But God saw that and rewarded them. Most of that kind of people rest in our Knins!

On All Souls' Day, or as we say, the Day of the dead, we often think of our loved ones, relatives, friends and acquaintances. We show them the attention of visiting graves, lighting candles, or praying for them. We correct mistakes that we have expressed to them for life, not seeing and not appreciating the love that they had "for God and neighbour." And "love, as Saint Paul says, is the peak of perfection". For instance, holiness.

I often have a thought that comes to my mind, whether we should pray for them or ask them to help us that we follow them in our life on the road of holiness and love. And "because they believed" they received the award and "entered the Kingdom of heaven."
All Souls' Day should be our examination of conscience for our failures to them, and a promise to follow them on their way to God.
Two meditative songs that we bring for these two holidays let us be signposts on how and what to do in our life. The candle we light is our sacrifice.
Good actions filled with love, "which is the crown of perfection" are even better sacrifice and a real pathway sign.
