The Holocaust is the most terrible and shocking thing that was ever done and it is important to teach children about the Holocaust because our responsibility is to pass it on to all the next generations so this terrible thing will not return again. In the Holocaust 9 millions people and 6 million of them were Jewish people killed in terrifying ways only because they were with a different religion than the Nazis. On the Holocaust Remembrance Day we share the pain and suffering with the Holocaust survivors and those that are gone. The Holocaust remembrance day is a very hard and painful day in our state. On this day we honor and share the hard moments with each other. On this day, we lower the Israeli flag to half of the flagpole. After that we usually carry out a ceremony in their honor. The ceremonies remind us of the horrors of the Holocaust. During the Holocaust ceremonies we pass through songs and quote the horrible things Hitler did to our nation. We also unite with those who were murdered by flying to Poland for "March of life" until Auschwitz. In this project we learned about Marsha's mother Sonia Welis Frenkel. Sonia Welis was born in Zabludeva, Poland near the city of Bialostok in 1923. She had two brothers and one sister. Her parents Moshe and Bella were killed in Auschwitz along with one of her brothers. Her older sister Shandel Welis escaped to Russia from the Bialostok ghetto. Her second brother was in a concentration camp, survived and then moved to Israel. All of her brothers and sister have passed away since then. She lived in the Bialostok ghetto and worked in a kindergarten. She loved children very much and before passing away in 1991 she asked Marsha to educate her students about the Holocaust to encourage them to become better people.
