A Girl of the Holocaust

Families, ripped from each other’s arms
Mothers taken from young infants
Father’s killed or taken from their families,
Children scream as mothers protest
Men, with cold hearts
Shooting those who don’t give in,
No sympathy for those they capture
They don’t stop to think,
What it would be like,
If they were in my shoes,
My mother,
Killed for trying to help,
My brother of 5 years,
My father taken away,
To labor until he is killed,
Because he can do it no longer,
Me, separated from all I know,
To ponder on all things cruel,
And to have more time to myself,
Then I could ever have wanted.
