One place in our world today that needs attention is Dafur.  Darfur is an area in the western region of Sudan and is one of the poorest countries in the world.  Many families live in great poverty.  Like in the Holocaust there is genocide going on in Darfur.  In 2003 the president of Darfur (Omar al-Bashir) gave weapons and support to local tribes and other types of militias in the country.  These militia are now know as the Janjaweed in Darfur.  After the Omar al-Bashir gave support to the militia they started to tear the country apart.  The Janjaweed went around the country and destroyed villages, eradicated water and food supplies.  Also, the Janjaweed murdered, tuotured, and raped thousands and thousands of Darfurians with the consent of the Sudan’s armed forces.
No part of the population of Darfur has been spared from the violence and destruction.  Sometimes when the villagers in Darfur think they are actually getting some help the Janjaweed disguise them selves as UN humanitarian workers.  When the villagers come out to get food and water the Janjaweed kill all of the villagers.  This is just one of the examples of the horrible violence that is going on in Darfur.  As many as 400,000 people have been reported as dieing already in Darfur already because of the violence.  Darfurians are fleeing into other countries surrounding the area for aid.  The genocide in Darfur is a truly horrible thing and we and other people around the world need to help end the genocide.
