This Train By Doug W. This paper is about a song called "This Train Revised" by the Indigo Girls. Our class has been learning about the Holocaust and what happened during it, so this was a good song to listen to. The lyrics of the song have several inferences to the Holocaust. The lyrics that say "David's Stars" refers to the Jewish people. The lyrics which say" stacked like wood" refer to the huge stacks of dead bodies, and the lyrics that say" shock the monkey" refer to the medical experiments done to the Jewish people. There are also lyrics in the song that point out how the Jewish people felt about all of the horrible things that were happening. "A Lump in the Throat" is part of the song that explains how the Jewish people were extremely nervous about where they were going and what was going to happen to them. "Skin and Bone" is also part of the song that refers to the people in the train car starving to death. The song also infers that the Jewish people could have been a great and strong group if the Holocaust had not happened. In the analogy that speaks of "A dancer with no legs", and "A healer with no hands "and "A thinker with no feet". All of these phrases are saying that they could have been very, very great, but the Holocaust held them back from that. The song "This Train" seems to try to show that there was much prejudice and injustice against the Jewish people during the Holocaust. It tries to explain how they might have felt. all in all, this was a horrible time. |
