This Train Revised

By: Derek V.

The song "This Train Revised' was written by Amy Ray from The Indigo Girls."This Train Revised" is about the Holocaust and what happened to the Jews. The song had a lot of facts and details along with some symbolic items.

A couple of the symbolic things that I found within the lyrics were "David's star" and" gypsies" which I found out meant Star of David or Jews, and "gypsies" meant like free spirits and hippies. "Shock the monkey" also was a lyric that represented the experiments the Nazi party performed on the Jews and hippies and other captives.

The lyrics to "This Train Revised" had several facts in the song that told a story about how the Jews were treated or how they suffered. "Stacked like wood" is an example of the story telling lyrics. It meant the Jew's bodies were stacked when they died or they were cramped in a small room. "Razor on wire" represented the concentration camps that the Jews were stuck in.

The song also tells how the Nazis had broken the Jews' dreams. The Nazis took away the Jews' education and prevented them from having professional jobs. "A healer that has no arms" is an example of a doctor who was taken away from his/her job and can't help anyone. Also the Jewish people could have invented some new or recent thing during the Holocaust, so we might have had the Xbox360 or Iphone sooner.

This Song,"This Train Revised" had a lot of good facts, details, and symbolic lyrics about the Holocaust and what happened. I hope this report helped you understand this song and taught you a little more about the Holocaust.
