This Train Revised. By: Rachel G. When I listened to the song and lyrics, I heard the true meaning behind it. It doesn't matter what year you were born if u were a Jew, As the train rolled on, many people became ill, crazy, dead, and many other things. Average people, everyday people, were on a train. 600,000,000 to be exact. As many Jews as there are numbers, just about. Grandparents, parents, kids, kids' kids, boy &girl, tan & pale. Every Jew was to be sent to a "special camp" in only a few days. Surprise. Just imagine how they felt. The train. The camp. The people. Scared, hungry, thirsty, and many people suffered. Every Jew had to wear a David's Star on their shirts in order to be classified as a Jew. The prejudice against them was just plain cruelty to all man kind. If they didn't wear David's Star, the Nazis would've beaten, hung, and possibly shot the Jews on the spot for friends and family to see. The parts of the song that caught my eye the most says: Do you shock the monkeys? Which basically means, do you like doing experiments on alive and dead people?? Cover our eyes with clear blue skies?? This means to not worry about everything but to put aside all the damage mankind has done to these people and just forget it. In the paragraphs we learned about this special song. About how all the Jews were treated with absolutely no respect for their religion. We have also learned that our own opinions are to be shared with others who care. As their families may have gone on, so did mine. My name is Rachel and my family's background is German-Jew. My family survived and so did others. We were just one of the "lucky ones". Background and banner by Talya Ein Ganim |
