THE BISCUITS AND THE DEATHElion Cambel fought in Gallipoli. His granddaughter, Debbie Reys, found his diary in a box. On one of his memories of war, he was mentioning about the truce on April 24th. The Turks were burying their friends. Some of us offered them to help. Friends and enemies cooperated in this terrifying mission. Meanwhile an Australian gave some meat and biscuits to a Turk from his shield. But probably he didn’t have anything to give or he didn’t know what to give him. Couple of weeks later, the Anzacs started a great attack. An Australian soldier fell near the Turkish shield. It was impossible to be rescued under the siege. He would wait to die there. But there was something else rather than death.
The Turk gave his late gift. The wounded Australian was the soldier who gave the Turk some meat and biscuits. The Turk who got shot was the soldier who took the meat and biscuits. Serkan Kandirmaz, Elif Ecem Coskun, Tugce
