HE CAME BACK, FOUGHT AND BECAME A MARTYR
Lieutenant Huseyin fought that night. He got two wounds this time and he was sent to Istanbul. After a little while he came back again but they kept him at the headquarters until the next day. They told him that ‘don’t worry, we have found a substitute officer for you.’ Two nights later, was fighting again. Sergeant Mehmet, from Civrilli, lost his right hand when he was throwing back a hand grenade which had been thrown by the enemies. But he wasn’t satisfied. He sent a letter to his commander: ‘Sir, please forgive me. I lost my right hand but I still have my left hand. I can fight with that.’ Sadik, from Sereflikochisar, became a martyr while he was pulling an enemy soldier to his shield not to die under the siege. When Hasan, from Tokat, became a martyr, they found two letters to his brother and his sister. On the letters, he wrote ‘You’ll get these when I’m a martyr.’ To his brother: ‘Don’t be afraid to die for our country’. To his sister: Raise your children as promising and self-sacrificing for our country. Commander Ismail Hakki said ‘Take him away’ for the young lieutenant Dursun. His arm was about to leave from his body. When Dursun opened his eyes, he was in the hospital in Istanbul. Ibrahim, who carried him away from the battle field, was next to him. On the second day in the hospital, Ibrahim said to Dursun ‘I’m going back, sir’. He wanted to go back and fight. He came back, fought and became a martyr. Sercan Aran |
