SEYIT CORPORAL

Seyit Corporal was born in Manastir Village in September, 1889. His father’s name was Abdurrahman; his mother’s name was Emine. Seyit became a soldier in April, 1909. He fought in the Balkan War. After the war was over, he was sent to Gallipoli as a cannon man. His name is unforgettable because he is a legendary hero in Gallipoli.

At the Navy Battle on 18th March, there was an only one cannon which was working. But its mechanism to lift the cannon bullets was broken down. He lifted a bullet which weighed about two hundred kilos and put it in the cannon. The Ocean fighting boat was badly damaged with this heavy bullet.

Seyit Corporal went back his home in autumn of 1918. He continued his business on foresting and coal mining. He got his surname ‘Cabuk’ (which means ‘hurry’ in English) after a law which was passed in 1934.

He died of an illness in his lungs in 1939.
