WHAT HAPPENED TO MY SON?

35th regiment in Izmir was going to Gallipoli by train. While the soldiers were singing songs, officer Hakki was looking out of the window. He saw a woman between Izmir and Manisa.

Poor old woman was shaking her hand to the soldiers on the train and her other hand was holding the pole of telegram. And she was crying. She was obviously a mother of a soldier.

He was nearly going to cry. He looked at that woman until she disappeared. He wouldn’t forget that woman who was crying and shaking her hand to the soldiers.

Days later, he received a letter from a mother. Almost every letter was the same:

‘You were my son’s best friend. What happened to my son?’
