The children have learned so much about World War II
and the Holocaust. They were horrified to learn of all the atrocities.
This is such a moving subject, one that takes time to teach and for
the child to digest. They can’t believe that people could be
so cruel. We are honored by the selfless acts of courage, stories of
liberation, and lasting memorials of bravery. In all things, we believe
just like Anne did, that people are good at heart. (View Brianna's slides about Anne
Frank.)
We have included pictures of them working on their projects, art work,
and reading their stories. They also viewed a documentary on Gerda Weissman.
Her story is of courage, perseverance, and the power of the human spirit.
Be blessed during this time of year as you remember those who lost their
lives and those who survived to tell their story.
Thank you for allowing us to participate.

What the children learned
Today I learned about the Holocaust, the story of Anne Frank, and Gerda
Weissmann.
Gerda Weissman survived the Holocaust and death camps. She was treated
so horribly.
Lt Kurt Klein, an American solder and former Jewish occupant of Germany,
came and liberated her in the winter of 1945.
This was wrong what the Germans did. We should never let anything like
this happen again.

Today we learned about Anne Frank.
She only had one sister, Margot. During World War II her parents had
to escape Germany and move to the Netherlands. Her family still was not
out of the reach of Adolf Hitler. Her daddy told her that the family
had to go into hiding. Before they went into hiding, her father gave
her a diary. She told all about her life. She called her diary Kitty.
And she wrote in it she was she brought it along. She still believed
that people were good. Since they were hiding, she could not go outside
because the Germans would take her away. Her family was eventually captured.
They all were deported to Auschwitz. They did not feed them well. Anne,
her sister, and her mother died. Her father survived and he published
her diary. That is why we now know her story.

I learned that Anne Frank was a brave
girl during World War II. She died when she was only sixteen. She received
a diary and in it she wrote that she would like to be a famous actress
or writer when she grew up. During the war she lived in a Secret Annex
with nine other people. The German soldiers found her and her family
in their secret hiding place. They took them to the Nazi Death Camp.
She had a sister named Margot, a mother named Edith Frank, a father named
Otto Frank. She struggled through the war, but she did not make it because
she died of Typhus (Typhod).
Anne was strong and brave and never gave up on life. She believed she
could make it through the war. Although she didn’t make it, she
became a famous writer anyway because of her diary. Her father survived
the war. He became an international speaker for World Peace.
