I’m a Japanese girl.  I’m in the second grade of Takamori Senior High School.  In the future, I’d like to travel around the world.

    One day I watched a movie titled “The Pianist.”  It is about Nazism and a man who is a Jewish person.  I had heard about history of Nazism, but I never studied or read books about it.  I wanted to know about it when my friend talked to me about Germany. She is Canadian and she studies about history of Europe.  She said “There was the Holocaust in Germany.”  I didn’t know what its meaning was.  She suggested watching a movie about it, so we watched the movie.

    After watching the movie, I was just surprised and sad.  She said “It is the Holocaust and it was a real thing that happened in history.  There were Jewish people who were starving and were forced to work in cruel places, and were shot by a firing squad.  They were killed because they were Jewish people.  It was unreasonable!  And then, I could understand the meaning of Holocaust.

 In the movie, a man who is a pianist had to hide from Germans because he was a Jew.  Despite his efforts to hide, he was put into concentration camps.  There were barbarous acts in the camp.  They had to work hard for poor food and people were killed for no meaning.  He was shocked and thought about killing himself.

At the end of the movie, he could escape and hide in a vacant house, but it became a base for German military.  Unfortunately he was found by a commander, and then he was not killed because of piano.

 He played the piano for the commander and he was moved by the pianist.  He played Chopin.  It was elegant, beautiful and powerful.  I listened to it with tears in my eyes.  I think it was a great scene.

 I think races should not matter.  Everyone wishes for peace.  We have to think about war, races, and history to study what was wrong and what we should do now.

私は高森高校の２年生で、日本人の女の子です。

将来は世界中をまわってみたいと思います。これは私にとって平和について考えるいい機会になったと思います。

私は「ピアニスト」という映画をみました。これはナチズムと一人のユダヤ人をテーマに描いた物です。

今までナチスについて聞いたことはありましたがそれについて勉強したことや本を読んだことは一度もありませんでした。しかし私の友達がドイツの歴史について教えてくれたことがきっかけで私はナチスについて勉強したくなりました。

彼女はカナダ人で、そのときヨーロッパの歴史を勉強していました。

　「ホロコーストがドイツにはあったのよ」

彼女は私にそう言いました。けれどそのとき私はホロコーストの意味がよくわかりませんでした。そして彼女の提案でナチスについて描かれた映画をみることになったのです。

　映画をみた後、私はただ驚き、そして悲しくなりました。

　「これがホロコーストと呼ばれるもの。歴史で実際にあったことよ」

そこには飢餓に苦しみ、危険性の高く辛い仕事場で働かされ、銃で殺されていくユダヤ人、『大量虐殺』がありました。

　彼らはただユダヤ人ということだけで殺されていました。私にはそれが信じがたく、そのときホロコーストという意味を悟ったのです。

　映画の中ではピアニストの一人の男性がユダヤ人という理由でドイツ人から隠れていました。隠れるための彼の努力にもかかわらず、彼は見つかり、収容所へと入れられることとなりました。少ない食べ物を得るためにとても辛い仕事を一生懸命にしなければなりませんでした。そういった残虐な行いばかりがされていました。そして中には意味もなく殺されていく人々も映し出されていました。ピアニストの彼はそのことにショックを受け、自分が殺されることについて考え始めました。

　映画の終わりには彼はついに逃げ出すことに成功し、空き家へと身を隠します。けれどそこはドイツ軍の駐在所となってしまうのです。不幸なことに彼はドイツ軍の司令官に見つかってしまいますが、そこにピアノがあったおかげで殺されずにすみました。

　彼は司令官のためにピアノを奏で、そのピアノに司令官は感動します。彼のショパンはとても優雅で美しく、そして力強い音色でした。その曲を聞いていると涙が出てきました。すばらしいシーンでした。

　私は人種は世界にとって重要な意味をもたないと思います。誰もが平和を願うならそれは関係ないと思うからです。

　私たちは戦争について考えなければなりません。そして歴史についても、今後こういったことを起こさないためにも知る必要があるのだと思います。
