Dear Globaldreamers, We just watched a movie called Paper Clips. It was about a class that wanted to see what 6 million was. So they collected Paper Clips to represent all who died in the Holocaust. They ended up with 29 million that they collected. After that, they bought a rail car that carried millions of people to death in the Holocaust. They decided to put in only 11 million to represent the Jews, and others who were wrongfully killed, 6 million for the Jews, and the other 5 million people who weren’t Jews. They also decorated the sidewalk with Butterflies to show that we should all be free like the butterflies. That is what the Butterflies represent. With that movie I remember all that were killed, escaped, and all
those who endured pain that they didn’t deserve. Although they were Jews
and it was all because of their religion, they are still people. People
who deserve to be respected because of their strong belief in God. People
that were the descendants of Jesus who came down to earth to save us. For five years Whitwell Middle School collected the 29 million, 11 million of those used to remind us of all the people who perished in the Holocaust. Those who remind us to never let that happen again. The pain, the harshness, the hunger, the cold. That’s why they collected the Paper Clips. To remind us that the people who perished, children, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters, and friends, are still are alive in our hearts. I know that in Israel you guys have this day when the sirens go off
and everyone has a moment of silence until the sirens stop, right? Well,
I think that it should happen in the United States where we live too.
It is a day of remembrance for the people who perished.
During those frightful years of the Holocaust, babies, children, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters, and friends, were gassed, shot, starved, had a disease, beaten, or worked to death in the concentration camps. These were all part of Hitler’s plan to get rid of the Jews that he thought were not real people. I think that he also thought that Jews were not worth living for. But he was terribly wrong. The Jews were people just like you and me. The only difference was that they had a different religion and they were descendants of Jesus. Put you in one of the Jews place. Would you want people to beat you, call you names, shoot you, gas you, or do any of the other things that happened to the Jews? I’m guessing NO, right? Well, I agree with you. The real reason for this letter is to tell you what I think about the movie, Holocaust, and what my idea’s are for remembering the Holocaust. Although you know about this more than I do, I know that Hitler’s followers are still running the race to kill all Jews. They want to have a second Holocaust. To wipe out the Jews like Hitler once wanted to. I hope all goes well for you and your family!
Your Global Dreaming friend,
Heidi Z.
