FCIS school, Indiana, USA

There are two schools.  The number of the participants may differ. If you want only the ESL students, we have 15 in both schools. If you want "regular American" students, they are the 4th, 5th and 6th grade students and willing to take part in your project. Just let me know and please, send me more information about your project.

Shabbat Shalom.
Marina

Dear Michal and our Israeli friends,
It was very interesting for us to read about Hannuka.
We have just celebrated Thanksgiving, when we sat at a table with the whole family and ate a big turkey.
It is a holiday for a family reunuon.
These days our town is very beautiful. Everybody is getting ready for Christmas, the shops, malls, houses are decorated with lights. People shop a lot for Christmas presents, and we wait to get presents from our relatives and Santa (even though we know he isn't real, we fill out our fish list for Santa, to get a present).
It's very cold here now. We had some snow last week but New York and Boston were covered with snow an people had to dig their cars to recover them.
The funniest thing was .... there is no school there today due to the weather.

Have a happy Hannuka,

Mrs. Veprinski's ESL class

Dear Israeli friends,
Happy Hannukah to you. Our teacher told us a lot about this holiday. It's so beautiful, we liked especially that you get presents and money for this holiday. Christmas is also very close. We have Christmas trees everywhere with lights and other decorations. The streets and shop windows are very beautiful, especially when they are covered with snow. Do you like snow? Our teacher told us that in your country it almost never snows only in the mountains and in Jerusalem. Is it so? Do you mean you never ski or skate? Winter is the best time of the year.
Friday is our last day before winter break. We count hours to it. School is O.K. but ...

We want to wish you happy holidays and PEACE.

Your friends from far away Indianapolis Indiana

Dear friends from Israel,
We are back to school from the winter break. Even though it lasted for 2 weeks, we couldn't wake up this morning. Everybody agrees that we need at least one more day of vacation.
We were sad to hear about the terrorist attack in your city. It's terrible. You must feel very scared.
We have fire and tornado drills here. Tornadoes are very frightening, we have to hide in the basement and wait. We understand that tornadoes are natural disasters and terrorists are simply heartless creatures who kill innocent people.
Have you heard that here too several flights were canceled due to Al Kaida threat?
We all need peacefull and happy childhood, doesn't matter where we live.
Keep in touch and be safe.

Dear Dana,
We liked your letter very much. Especially we were interested to hear abou the holiday when you eat fruits.
In Mexico we also had such a holiday, but we don't know of any of this kind in America.
Tell us what you usually do during recess and how long it is.
Our class is working on the Fairy Tales project.
Can your students send us some Jewish fairy tales?

Thanks a lot again.

Your friends from Indiana.

Dear Marina and class,
My name is Dana and I am from Marsha's class.
I would like to write to you from the 6th grade, Marsha and myself.
We are very happy to write you again but we are very sad that we will tell you about a terrible thing that happened in our country last days: there was a terror attack, today, in Jerusalem. There are 10 people that are dead until now.
We think these attacks have no use and they are very bad and make many people very sad. Innocent people are killed and their families suffer from there on, all their lives.

Another important thing that will happen today is the Prisoner Exchange. Israel will release about 500 Arab prisoners and for this, one terror organization will free three dead soldiers and one live citizen of Israel.
This will be a very happy day to the families:
The live citizen's family will have a part of their family back, and the dead soldier's families will have a grave to cry on.
This is a very exciting, sad and happy day for the nation.

The next celebration we will have is Tu Bishvat.
In this holiday we eat dried fruits and celebrate with plants and flowers. This is the holiday of the trees and plants and it is a very happy and nice festive day.
We all appreciate your friendship more than words can say.

Thank you for writing.
Hope to hear from you soon,
Sincerely,
The 6th grade of Ein Ganim School and Marsha

We had many delays and even missed one day of school due to severe weather conditions.
It was so cold, -25-30C. There was also much snow.
