Bosphorus Bridge, Republic Day Celebrations, October 29, 2006

Turkey became a republic on 29th October 1923, and the leader and the general, Mustafa Kemal, became President-not Sultan, not Caliph, the titles that Ottoman monarchs paraded for 600 years.

We celebrate every 29th October with light shows, concerts, fire works, exhibitions, etc.

The bridge connects the two continents, Asia and Europe.

Wikipedia: about the Bridge

Small summary: The Bosphorus Bridge is a suspension bridge which connects Europe and Asia, spanning the Bosphorus strait. It is a toll bridge when passing from Europe to Asia, but not the reverse. Be sure to read the "trivia" near the bottom and see about the first tennis match played in two continents.
