Israel's 60th Anniversary
This year, we are celebrating Israel's 60th anniversary.
In these 60 years, Israel was very successful:
- We grew from 650,000 people to more than 7,000,000 people.
- Eight Israelis won the Nobel prize:
- Shay Agnon, Literature, 1966.
- Menachem Begin, Peace, 1978.
- Yitzhak Rabin and Shimon Peres, Peace, 1994.
- Daniel Cahanman, Economy, 2002.
- Avraham Hershko and Aharon Chekhanover, Chemistry, 2004.
- Israel Robert Uman, Economy, 2005.
- Six Israelis won Olympic medals:
- Barcelona, 1992, Yael Arad (silver) and Oren Smadja (bronze).
- Atlanta, 1996, Gal Friedman (bronze).
- Sydney, 2000, Michael Kalganov (bronze).
- Athens, 2004, Arik Ze'evi (bronze) and Gal Friedman (gold).
- Israel is one of only eight countries that launch satellites into space:
- Ofeq 1, 2, 3, 5, 7.
- Amos 1, 2. Amos 3 is going to be launched soon with the logo of the 60th anniversary. Amos 4 will be launched in 2012.
- Eros 1,2. Eros 3 will be launched in 2009.
- Tech–Sat 2 was launched by the Technion studants in 1998.
- Tech-Sar launched in 2008 from India.
- Israel has peace agreements with:
- Egypt, since 1979.
- Jordan, since 1994.
