The Lyceum-Gymnasium “E. Duni” is the most ancient school
in Matera: its birth dates back to the 1864. The school is in honour of
Emanuele Duni (Matera 1714- Napoli 1781), an illustrious jurist coming
from a famous family of Matera. He is also the brother of Egidio Romualdo,
our Academy of Music is dedicated to him.

Our school is a grammar school
and for this reason the students study Latin and ancient Greek since
the first 2 years of studies. They also study Italian language, foreign
language (English), Religion, History, Geography and Maths. Since the
third year they also study Philosophy, Natural sciences, Physics, and
History of art. They also do physical education twice a week . The school
has also different laboratories: sciences, physical, multimedia and languages-multimedia
laboratory. We’ve also a library with a lot of books, ancient and modern.
In our school there are 50 teachers and 660 students, from 14 to 19.
The timetable is from 8.20 a.m. to 12.20 p.m. on the first and second
years, and from 8.20a.m. to 1.20 p.m. or from 8.20a.m. to 1.45 p.m. on
the three years. A big attention is turned to European projects and cultural
training for students, in each fields, sport included. |
