Eilat is the most southern city in Israel.

Eilat was established at the head of gulf of Eilat, next to the red sea beaches.

Eilat was built where was before a British police station named: “Um – Rashrash" .

The area Eilat was conquered in 1948 and the city was built at 1957. Today, there are about 57,000 residents.

The tourism is a very important source of income to Eilat.

There are many hotels in Eilat; the trade is also very developed, because Eilat is free from purchase taxes.

Eilat is famous for its sun all year long, therefore the city is full with of tourists, especially in the winter.

My family and I also like to visit in Eilat, to dive in the red sea coral reef, hike in the desert sites around the city, and enjoy the hotels.

Eilat is a bird-watching international center.

When we visit Eilat we enjoy watching birds, especially in the salt pools where are hundreds of flamingo.

About Eilat

Eilat is a tourism city in Israel and the number of residents there is 37,000.

Its location is between Egypt (in the south) and Jordan (in the east).

Eilat was established in 1951 but until 1956 it was only a little settlement at the far end of Israel.

A port was established In Eilat and it continued to upgrade until now quickly.

From the port's establishment, Eilat was the only way to Israel to go to the Far East and East Africa because "Suez Canal" blocked all the Israeli ships that wanted to travel there.

In Addition, a crude oil port was established to import crude oil from Iran to Israel.

The residents earned money from this port.

The importance of this port decreased after Suez Canal opened in 1975 because all the ships preferred the Suez Canal.

Then, the only way to earn money for the residents was tourism.

But that wasn't a problem for the residents because the tourism in Eilat was a big success because Eilat has many sea-shores, a hot climate all year long, the coral reservation there is located in the south shore, beautiful mountainous view and a free trade zone with a low prices.

There are also a lot of malls that attract the tourists.

Eilat is number two in Israel (after Tel Aviv and Jerusalem) in the number of the tourists sleeping arrangements.

Eilat is remembered in the bible as one of the stops of the People of Israel to Canaan (Canaan is Israel in the bible).

In the days of the kingship of Israel and Judah, Eilat was an important port city.

During the period of the British rule in Israel, Eilat was only an Arabic police station ’Äì "Um Rashrash" and the IDF conquered it  in March 1949 in a campaign called "Fact".
