The Moon Festival

In China and throughout many Asian countries people celebrate the Harvest Moon on the 15th day of the eighth month of their lunar calendar.

The date in the Western calendar changes yearly. In 2006, it fell on October 6.

It is similar to Western Thanksgiving in that there are family gatherings and it is a 'harvest' festival.

There are many ancient legends about the Moon Festival.

Red is a good luck color and many of the foods are red in color (salmon and lobster along with things like apples and pomegranates.

Moon cakes are the highlight of the Moon Festival. See recipe here.
