Integrated Lessons

These rainbow projects tie in to our weather unit which includes Science - a poem recitation and illustration for Language Arts and a writing assignment tied into our reading series.

The blue background rainbows have three symbols to illustrate three wishes - the smbols are a heart - a three leaf clover and a star.

I tried to do a close up of a particularly moving one by Jessika. Her wishes included world peace , a wish that her sister who died ( at age of 20 ) is at peace and a wish to know her real parents.

The emotions poured into these seemingly simple projects are truly deep especially here at Driggs.

I also took a shot of the class today as they worked on their writing assignment.

I had filled a basket with eggs - some small and some large . The eggs were plastic and filled with goodies but I put coins into the smaller ones.

I mixed the colored tops and bottoms and had the students pick an egg then answer some question's including why they picked a specific egg - describe its appearance based on physical characteristics, predict what may be in it based on its size, weight and sound made when shook and all this in paragraph form.

At the end we discussed a possible moral (from our theme of Aesop fables last week in Reading) and came up (with a lot of prodding and pulling by me!) with "Good things come in small packages "

It was quite enjoyable for all - one of those lessons that truly engage the kids.
