Seaport on Southern Coast of the Black Sea

It has always been an important port, and in ancient times was guarded by a huge citadel. Now Samsun to the east is the largest port on the Black sea, but Sinop still florishes.

Legend says that the Amazons founded Sinope and named it after thei queen: Sinova. Throught the ages there were many wars and changes of 'ownership' as different peoples wanted the desirable location.

Today it is a very desirable tourist location with much to see and many delightful places to stay. The seaside hotels overlooking the beautiful natural harbor provide a restful stay.
