Tree festival

Trees give us life, so we return to them our love with a celebration special dedicated to the tree. In Cyprus we celebrate the Tree Festival in the first week of February.

We celebrate the Tree Festival because of the many goods they give to us. They give us their wood, shadow and fruits. They clean the atmosphere from carbon dioxide and give us oxygen. They give us that brilliant green which beautifies our lives and places and so many other things.

During the tree festival many cultural exhibitions are being organized by municipal authorities, schools and various organizations and clubs. The celebrations include songs, dances and tree planting.

In our class, we studied about the environment and the Tree, we wrote several essays about the goods of the tree and we did sandwich boards about the protection of the tree.

In addition, our school organized in our village (Frenaros) a small celebration about the tree. The festival included songs and poems about the tree, dances and tree planting.

In Cyprus, the most common kinds of trees are the orange and lemon trees, vines, pines, cedars, cypress and others. The most representative sample of CyprusÕ tree, is of course the olive tree. Two olive brances garnish the Cyprus flag, because our island has many olive trees.
